Lost and found pets in Atlanta
Atlanta is the one place in the metro where "which shelter?" has two answers. Most of the city sits in Fulton County, but a strip of east Atlanta (including East Atlanta and Kirkwood) is in DeKalb. A dog that slips out in West End and a dog that slips out in Kirkwood can end up at shelters on opposite sides of the metro. If you're anywhere near the county line, check both.
Short answer: report a lost or found pet in the Fulton County part of Atlanta to Fulton County Animal Services (404-613-0358, 1251 Fulton Industrial Blvd NW). In the DeKalb part of the city, it’s DeKalb County Animal Services (404-294-2996, 3280 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd, Chamblee). Both are run by LifeLine Animal Project and both take lost reports through Petco Love Lost.
Do these today
- File a Petco Love Lost report. Both Atlanta county shelters photo-match against it, so one report covers both.
- Call or email both shelters if you live within a mile or two of the Fulton and DeKalb line.
- Visit in person. Neither shelter publishes a stray hold period on its lost-pet page, so don’t assume you have a week.
- Check Atlanta Humane Society at its Arthur M. Blank Family Animal Center on Perry Blvd, since people often drop found pets at the closest shelter rather than the county one.
- Work the neighborhood. Intown lots are small and fenced. Ask neighbors to check sheds, crawl spaces and under porches, and post on Nextdoor for your neighborhood.
